Hey Y’all! 🙂 This weekend I really didn’t plan on sewing. However, after seeing Brittany J Jones’ Instagram stories and an impromptu trip to JoAnn’s, I found my hands itching to sew this super easy (and cute) top.
McCall’s 7542 is a new release in the Early Spring 2017 Collection. The pattern contains semi-fitted tops with 5 sleeve variations. This pattern calls for lightweight woven fabrics. I love pleats and was immediately drawn to View C.
Easy. The top was constructed in no time and instructions are easy to follow. There is some hand stitching required for the hem and hook and eye closure.
Keepsake Calico Cotton from JoAnn’s . Since this is considered quilting cotton, I prewashed with fabric softener before cutting.
I used the bodice for View D/E and added two inches to the bodice length. Of course, this was to accommodate my tall frame and ensure the top fell at my hipline. The fabric I selected was the end of the bolt and I didn’t have enough to complete the sleeve block in one piece. I cut and attached two-inch strips to get the length I needed.
Is it me or doesn’t this pattern totally remind you of a top Michelle Obama recently wore? Anyway, I love this pattern and the sleeves are what make this so loveable. I original envisioned this with some jeans but I also think this would look super cute with a matching skirt. I’m very tempted to see if I can turn this into a dress. I will be making another very soon.
In preparation for Spring, I am giving away McCall’s 7391 pattern. To enter, you must like and comment on this post or subscribe to my blog. I will randomly select a winner on Thursday night and announce on my Friday June 3, 2017 blog post.
