Hey Y’all!! When I shop for new patterns, I love to revisit older patterns that I may have previously overlooked or forgone for one reason or another. Amidst the newly released patterns I’ve recently purchased, I also picked up one of last year’s Spring releases. Don’t worry, I’ll be featuring some of the new releases soon but today I’ll feature a great top that can be worn Spring after Spring.

OVERVIEW

McCall’s 7360 pattern features a pull over top/tunic with sleeve, pocket and hemline variations. It’s suitable for lightweight woven fabrics like chambray, cotton, linens and crepe de chine. I made View C with a few modifications.

SKILL LEVEL

Easy. The instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. However, there is hand-stitching involved to secure the placket and yoke lining at the shoulder seam. If you’re precise with ‘stitching in the ditch’, you can avoid the hand-stitching outright. With or without the hand-stitching, this top can be completed in just a few hours.

FABRIC USED

I used an abstract/tribal print cotton fabric I purchased on clearance (red tag) from JoAnn’s in Fort Worth. It was the end of the bolt so I paid about $12 for 2 5/8 yards of fabric. Since I made length adjustments, I didn’t have enough fabric, so I used remnants from an old project for the yoke lining. The remnants are cotton as well.

ADJUSTMENTS

I added 3 inches to the length of the bodice. I omitted the sleeves and used single fold bias binding on the armhole in lieu of the pattern piece for the armhole binding. I also omitted the pocket flap as well. I cut the collar on the bias to create some contrast to the repetitiveness and monotone colors of the fabric. I also made 4 inch splits/vents at the side seams.

OVERALL OPINION

I really enjoyed sewing this pattern because it’s super simple and I finished it in no time. This is a great ‘no fuss’ top that can be worn any day of the week. I’ve already worn this top to work and it is perfect for the warm Spring weather here in Texas. I’ll likely make another top before summer rolls around.
