I am really falling in love with the exposed shoulder trend for Spring and Summer. It’s a great way to add a little flirt and sass to the airy dresses and tops we all love to wear in the seasons’ warm weather.
McCall’s gave us trendy yet comfortable dresses and tops all in one pattern. Inside, I’ll share with you the two dresses I made using this great warm weather pattern.
McCall’s 7543 is an early Spring 2017 pattern. It contains off the shoulder pullover tops and dresses with sleeve and length variations. For this project I made View D.
Very Easy. This pattern has no hand stitching, facing, zippers or buttons! 🤗 This pattern is perfect for a beginner and a real winner for advanced sewers who are looking for a quick project. The sewing time is less than two hours.
For this project, I made two dresses. For the first dress, I used a chambray fabric and for my second dress, I used a textured linen blend. Both were purchased from JoAnn.
Of course, I made my usual tall girl adjustments. I added three inches of length through the bodice.
LESSONS LEARNED/THINGS TO KNOW
I prefer to wear off-the-shoulder garments just below the curve of my shoulder. This pattern is designed to be worn level with the top of the armpit. If you prefer not to wear the top that low, you may need to shorten the straps just a bit.
I loved this pattern. It was super quick to make and super easy to wear. I was really looking to make a dress I could just throw on at a moment’s notice and still look decent. Well, this dress is beyond decent looking, it’s absolutely adorable. I didn’t realize how great this pattern was until I wore the chambray dress to a crawfish boil last weekend. I received several complements. I’m seriously thinking of about making a third dress really soon.
