Hi Ya’ll. As you know, I love a good pattern hack. Nothing is more fun and challenging than ‘making it your own.’ Well, Simplicity has made pattern hacking a little easier with the release of their Pattern Hacking collection. The collection features four base patterns to create dresses, tops, cardigans and pants.

For me, pattern hacking is every sewers’ dream. Big or small, I love making tweaks to a pattern so that I can make it my own.

Inside, I’ll show you my version of Simplicity’s 8375 Patterning Hacking.

OVERVIEW

Simplicity’s Pattern Hacking collection was released earlier this year as a part of their Spring and Summer collections. Simplicity’s 8375 features one base pattern with three hybrids. Since that pattern is very basic, the options are endless for modifications. This pattern is only suitable for knits.

SKILL LEVEL

Very Easy. If you’ve sewn knits and neckbands, you probably don’t even need the pattern instructions. It only takes about an hour and a half to sew the entire dress.

FABRIC USED

I used French terry knit purchased from Fabric.com. I loved this fabric. I was soft, draped well and snaps back when stretched. It’s great for Summer and will transition nicely into Fall (for southeast Texas weather.)

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT/TECHNIQUES

Twin Needle. This was my first time using a twin needle. I purchased my set from Amazon and the results were perfect. It gave the garment a professional finish. If you don’t have a twin needle, you can always do two rows of single stitches.IMG_7550

ADJUSTMENTS

I added three inches to the hem. It hit just above the knee on my 6 foot frame. I also made three-quarter sleeves instead of the long sleeves.

LESSONS LEARNED

I suggest using fusible hem tape with your knits. I find it keeps the hems stable and reduces stretching while sewing. It also helps with ensuring your fabric doesn’t warp when using a twin needle.

OVERALL OPINION

Love this pattern. This dress is a great base piece and can be dressed up or down depending on your accessories. I can’t tell you how comfortable and flattering these dresses are. I’ve already made three and have another already cut to sew. I’ve made two with three-quarter sleeves and another with short sleeves. I will definitely be making more for my upcoming business trip overseas.

Hope you all enjoyed. Please like, comment and follow.
